Keys to Your Recovery: Writing Ourselves Whole

This book teaches you how to use the power of written words to heal, release and transform your life.

This week’s blog is about a book called Writing Ourselves Whole – Using the Power of Your Own Creativity to Heal from Sexual Trauma.

I have been working with this book for quite a few months now. When I began my journey of healing from the abuse I endured for more than 17 years, I started by writing poetry. It gave me a way to talk about the grisly details in “code;” it felt safe.

When I read the first few pages of the book, it opened up a big piece of me that I had shut off for a while. When I started the writing exercises, I began to feel waves of emotions -- anger, sorrow, fear, and resentment. The more I wrote and released, the lighter I felt.

Jen Cross’ words are in multiple forms: poetry, free writing, and some even seem like letters. I could feel everything she has written, and I’m not even halfway through the book.

If you have suffered sexual abuse or know someone who has, this book might be very helpful. If you love to write, then, my dear this is the book for you.

I would recommend this book for those who have already started their healing through therapy or other means.

I have faith in the healing powers of creativity. Don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself.
